A passport is an important statutory document that one should possess if one intends to travel outside Sri Lanka. In that sense, it could be stated that, next to an identity card, a passport is the key identification document for most Sri Lankans. Literally speaking, you cannot apply for a passport online in Sri Lanka. But you can obtain a suitable time slot by prior registration at the online passport application reservation system. This system is available at the Department of Immigration and Emigration website.

What are the All-Countries Passport processing fees?

  • Under the normal service, the cost isRs. 3500.00 and the passport will be delivered within 14 days.
  • The cost for same-day urgent delivery is Rs. 15000.00.

What are the documents required to be submitted along with the completed application form?

# For ordinary passports valid for all countries.

  • Current passport with a photocopy ofthe Bio data page. Photo studio acknowledgement
  • Original Birth Certificate of theapplicant with a photocopy.
  • Original National Identity Card ofthe applicant with a photocopy
  • Marriage certificate with a photocopywhere it is necessary (To confirm the name after marriage)
  • Educational Certificate related tothe profession and an acceptable document to confirm your service andphotocopies thereof. 

Where can I make the online appointments?

To apply for a passport online in Sri Lanka, go to https://www.immigration.gov.lk

Click on the red appointment button in the upper leftcorner of your screen. Once you click this button, you will be directed to apage where you can select an appointment for passport service.

Click on this and you will be directed to the PassportApplication Reservation System.

Fill in all the details on this page and press thegreen confirm button.

Once you do that, you will get a message on your phoneconfirming the time, date, and appointment number.

Where can I obtain the passport on the same day?

In order to obtain a passport on the same day, you should visit the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Travel Division of Battaramulla Head Office. The opening hours for same-day service are between 8.00 am and 1.00 pm.

How do I submit a digital photograph to obtain a passport?

  • Visit an authorized photo studio ofyour choice to obtain a digital photograph.
  • The Studio will send your photograph online to our computer system and will issue a Studio Acknowledgement Note toyou. No printed photographs are required for a passport application.
  • A studio acknowledgement note must bepresented with your application and other supporting documents to theDepartment.
