Puttalam District - Chillaw
Chilaw ( Halawatha in Sinhala) is the District Capital of Chilaw District and is situated in the coastal belt to the north of Negombo and is km from Colombo and from Negombo. It is linked by Road to Negombo to the south and Puttalam to the North. Chilaw is famous for fishing. There is a very big Lagoon and a harbor for fishing boats. There is also the “Dutch Canal” a water way built by the Dutch from Chilaw to Colombo At present Chilaw has become a popular place for Prone Farming. The Munneswaran Kovil a very sacred place for Hindus as well as for Buddhists is situated close to Chilaw
