Colombo District - Moratuwa
Moartuwa is an important town on the way to Galle from Colombo on Galle Road. And is situated between Ratmalana and Panadura. It is situated by the sea and well known for fishing. Moratuwa is mostly known for making of Furniture. Furniture made at Moratuwa is distributed to furniture dealers through out the Country. Because of this most of timber used for making furniture is brought to Moratuwa from all over Sri Lanka. It i\ has given rise to the well known a Sinhala Adage which says any two trees in Sri Lanka wherever they are situated will meet at Moratuwa. Of late Moratuwa has become a tourist attraction because of the Bolgoda Lake.And Moratu ganga which falls into the Sea at Moratuwa. Moratuwa is a Municipal Council. Moratuwa is inhabited mainly by Christians but there is a substantial Buddhist Population as well. Both religionists get on quite well. Historically Moratuwa is proud of their sons like Puran Appu and Migettuwatte Gunananada , considered as patriots of Sri Lanka. Their statues have been built as a mark of respect. There is a University in Moratuwa - Moratuwa University. Close by the University is the famous Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies. Velona Garment Industry, which pioneered the garment industry is also at Moratuwa .Moratuwa also has a government declared Industrial Zone. Moratuwa can be reached by train on the Coastal Railway . There is a Railway Station at Moratuwa which is between Dehiwala and Panadura Railway Stations.
