Interview extract from the Island news paper (November
2000)
Bathiya and Santhush are top of the pops in Sri Lanka at
the moment. So we thought well do an interview with
this famous duo. And what we publish today is courtesy of
the Millennium Teens of Groovy City.
How did you meet? We first met at a scout camp in
1999 and then again at Mary & David School of Music
where we sang together for three to four years.
When are your birthdays? Santhush (Septembr 5) and
Bathiya (December 22).
Did you have plans of becoming famous? Santhush:
No, it just happened. Bathiya: Its a miracle. I had
dreams, but I never thought it would happen.
Now that you have stormed Sri Lanka with some excellent
music, how about the international scene? Definitely, we
want to take it out and keep it Sri Lankan.
Do you work better under pressure? Santhush: It
doesnt make any difference. Im a guy who could
take a lot of pressure. Bathiya: I work better under pressure.
Now that youre famous, do you still move around
with your old friends? Santhush: Definitely they
are precious. Bathiya: When you are famous, you start to
appreciate your old buddies.
What are your happiest memories of the past few
years? Santhush: It was this concert at St. Josephs
College auditorium where around 4000 people were dancing
to our music with so much passion and unity. There was also
a concert in Kandy where the whole crowd went into a trance-like
lets party... Bathiya: When I walked into
Sony Music and MTV in India.
Whats your favourite outfit on stage? Santhush:
I like the crazy staff. Bathiya: I used to wear this tight
black shirt, but now Im crazy over this long cream
coat, with black shirt and pants.
What is the reaction you get from the teenagers
when you perform for "Teen Disc?" They make us
feel great.
Your most embarassing mom-ent? Santhush: I was on
stage and my zip was down. I didnt know about it.
Bathiya: It was a live telecast and I was standing in front
of thousands of people. Something was wrong with the equipment
and I was so excited that I couldnt sing.
Whats your favourite food? Santhush: Chinese.
Bathiya: Korean.
Your favourite shopping mall? No particular place.
Are you planning to get married? Santhush: Im
only 23, so whats the hurry. Bathiya: Im 23.
Perhaps I will think about it when Im 27 or 28.
What kind of a girl would you fancy? Santhush: One
who is caring, understanding and loving. Bathiya: A professional
person who should be a homely-type of a girl who can take
care of me cos I dont take care of myself because
of my work. And she should be nice to me.
What about your present love life? Santhush: With
all this hard work, I have no time for love, but hopefully
it should turn out to be good. Bathiya: Im not going
steady at the moment because of my work, but if I do come
across someone nice, I wouldnt mind.
Whats your musical ambition? Taking our music
to the world.
Are you working on another album? We have plans
for a new release in the year 2001 or 2002. Till then, we
will have a remake of our two albums with its remixers.
Show Vision will be giving away 10 copies of the duos
album "Life", in audio cassette form, in a competition.
Watchout for details.
